The Problem

The Cold War is over now. The atomic bombing of Japan is in the rearview mirror.

But is the threat of nuclear war history as well? More countries than ever before possess powerful nuclear arsenals. Most are improving them.

Many rely on a Cold War policy called Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD) to keep nuclear aggression in line. They believe that no nation would dare launch a nuclear strike against another nuclear power for fear of retaliation.

But with tensions rising between new and old enemies across the globe, MAD’s ability to keep the peace is growing doubtful.  After all, it was never intended as a permanent solution in the first place and has nearly failed on several occasions that we publicly know about.

Using just one nuclear weapon would have catastrophic consequences that could easily trigger a nuclear war.

Then comes nuclear winter to finish the job.

Destruction from nuclear weapons isn’t limited to blast and radiation, since nukes can also ignite mass-fires that burn entire cities in one giant fireball. Enormous temperatures are generated in nuclear firestorms. Concrete explodes and steel buildings collapse. Pressure vessels burst, spewing toxic chemicals, transportation fuels, and natural gas.

Huge amounts of soot and smoke are injected high into the stratosphere where they remain for years without rain to wash them out. Sunlight reaching the Earth would be significantly reduced, impacting yields from agriculture.

Violent struggles for survival would reign during a nuclear winter until starvation took its toll.

We invite you to join our campaign to bring global awareness to this pressing concern. Together we can bring the change the world needs. Together we can eliminate nuclear weapons.

The voice of reason. The voice of change.

Without nuclear weapons we don’t need nuclear weapons to save us from nuclear weapons in the first place.
